Courtney Levy Daniels, LMHC, CBTP®

Hi, I’m Courtney (she/her)! I have spent my career as a therapist working with those struggling to make peace in their relationship with their body and food. Prior to starting my private practice, I worked at Columbus Park, an eating disorder treatment center in Manhattan. I also served as a Primary Coach at Eating Disorder Recovery Specialists (EDRS), where I provided meal support and skills coaching to those in recovery.

I am a Certified Body Trust ® Provider and practice from a trauma-informed, social justice oriented, Health at Every Size (HAES)® framework. I am fat-positive, anti-diet, anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming and center lived experience. As a white, queer, straight-sized, financially secure, Jewish, cisgender woman, I recognize my many privileges and am constantly seeking to examine how they show up, both personally and professionally.

My passion for this work stems from my own experience recovering from an eating disorder, and the harm caused by diet culture. I recognize that healing your relationship with food and your body in a world that is constantly normalizing disordered behaviors, and promoting thinness, is extremely challenging, especially if you live in a marginalized body. I am not here to help you conform to these societal standards, but rather, find freedom and liberation from its constraints.

My style is warm, compassionate and genuine. I don’t believe in cold, hierarchical therapeutic spaces — I believe in collaboration, transparency and authenticity. I bring my full humanity to each relationship.

I feel so lucky to do this work and to have the privilege to witness the experiences and resilient stories of the client’s I get to work alongside. I look forward to getting to know you!

Isabelle Wilkinson, LMHC

Hi, I’m Isabelle (she/her)! I began my career at a group practice where I worked with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression and eating disorders. After a pause for maternity leave, I joined this practice specifically because my values firmly align with its mission and approach.

I am passionate about helping individuals who are struggling to heal their relationship to food and their bodies. My commitment to this work comes from my own lived experience recovering from years of disordered eating.

I work from a social justice oriented, trauma-informed and Health at Every Size (HAES)® framework. I believe that to achieve freedom, we must examine the ways in which we have been harmed by weight stigma, fatphobia and external systems.

The decision to start therapy is a brave first step towards a more empowered life and I am dedicated to fostering trust in a safe environment, while working collaboratively to support your individual healing process.

I believe that you are the expert of your own experiences. In our work together, I will support you in building trust with yourself and your body while examining the ways past experiences, and societal standards, may have disrupted your ability to do so.

My style is warm, genuine and non-judgemental. I lead with empathy, understanding, acceptance and respect. I believe our relationship is fundamental to the healing process. I value transparency, authenticity, collaboration and am always open to feedback.

I look forward to meeting you!

Jordan Spinelli, LMHC

Hi, I’m Jordan (she/her)! My career started and continues as a primary therapist at the Renfrew Center of New York City working with individuals in recovery from eating disorders, trauma and other co-occurring mental health conditions. I joined the Body Liberation Collective because I deeply believe in their values and desire longer-term, growth-fostering relationships with clients to help them heal their relationships with food and their bodies.

I operate from a trauma informed, social justice, and Health at Every Size (HAES)® lens. I feel very strongly that part of the work in therapy is not about “fixing,” but rather is about removing what is the way of you accessing your best self, which most often includes challenging and exploring the systematic issues that impact individuals. In order to do this work with you, I will forever be learning and growing to acknowledge my own privileges and ways I am a part of the system.

My style is genuine, relational and compassionate. I believe that laughter and joy is imperative in a therapeutic relationship. I will never pretend to be perfect or think that I am the expert in you.

I know firsthand that it takes immense bravery and vulnerability to start the journey towards healing in therapy. I want to help you develop a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship where you are able to find your own recovery and empowerment. It is a true honor to walk alongside clients to see them slowly returning to their own lives. I so look forward to going on that journey with you!

Julia Simkus, MHC Intern

Hi, I’m Julia (she/her)! I am currently pursuing my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling and Wellness at NYU. I joined the Body Liberation Collective because I am deeply committed to empowering individuals to heal their relationship with food and their bodies.

My passion for this space stems from my personal experience battling an eating disorder when I was a teenager. Recovering from this eating disorder confirmed my desire to become a mental health counselor because I recognize the inherent value in treating others when you have walked in their shoes. Through my own journey, I have gained an immense appreciation for the impact that treatment can have on one’s life and invaluable insights into the complexities of healing in a society that idealizes unrealistic standards of beauty.

Prior to beginning at this practice, I worked as a Recovery Coach at BALANCE Eating Disorder Treatment Center. During my time there, I provided support and guidance as my clients confronted their fears and anxieties surrounding food. I would counsel them through meals and help them minimize their irrational thinking patterns. While the role had its challenges, witnessing my clients’ progress was truly inspiring and reaffirmed the many reasons I chose this career path.

I understand how challenging it can be to heal your relationship with food and your body and recognize the immense courage it takes to embark on the path to recovery. As such, my primary goal is to create a space where you feel unconditionally validated and supported throughout this journey. I approach therapy with empathy, authenticity, and a deep commitment to building a trusting relationship with each of my clients.

As an intern at Body Liberation Collective, I will be providing low fee meal support and therapy services to individuals struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, chronic dieting, or body image dissatisfaction under the supervision of Courtney Daniels. If you’re interested in working with me, please reach out on our
contact page. I look forward to meeting you!
