EATING DISORDER

THERAPY

Here’s the reality - our society makes it virtually impossible to not have a complicated relationship with food and our bodies. Unfortunately, social media has only amplified the images and voices feeding us constant messages about how we’re not good enough, thin enough, pretty enough, “insert word here” enough. Well, when it comes to diet culture, we have had ENOUGH.

Through our years as eating disorder therapists, we have witnessed the devastating impact that disordered eating and eating disorders can have on a person’s life. Whether you feel controlled by rigid food rules, struggle with overwhelming thoughts about your body, are stuck on a never ending cycle of dieting, or use eating disorder behaviors as a way of coping with stress, we understand how exhausting, overwhelming, and disconnecting living with an eating disorder can be.

Fortunately, there is a way out!

It is possible to free yourself of eating disorder behaviors and create a life that feels fulfilling, meaningful, and guided by your truest values. We know because we’ve seen it happen, time and time again! We’ve worked alongside countless clients who - perhaps like you - felt like they would never recover, or that the life they wanted for themselves was not within reach, but who have been able to find freedom. You don’t have to go through this alone — we’re here to help you heal.

Our team is made up of Eating Disorder Specialists.

Prior to starting Body Liberation Collective, founder Courtney Daniels worked as a primary therapist at a top eating disorder treatment center in Manhattan. She has received advanced training in eating disorders through the Center for Body Trust and is a Certified Body Trust Provider (CBTP).

Additionally, all of the therapists at the practice have advanced training in eating disorders and many years of experience working with adults, adolescents, and teens struggling with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorders, Orthorexia, disordered eating, and body image concerns at the partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient levels of care. When it comes to the treatment of eating disorders, it is imperative to work with eating disorder therapists who are specifically trained in this field.

We get to the root of the problem.

We fundamentally believe that while your eating disorder or disordered eating behaviors are causing you distress in the present, they developed for a reason. Maybe they helped you cope, made you feel safe, allowed you to communicate needs that have been difficult to say, or offered a sense of control during out-of-control times. We understand that letting go of this can feel impossible. In our work together, we will get to know the role of the eating disorder, identify alternative ways of getting your needs met, dismantle the eating disorder and help you move towards a life that feels authentic, balanced, and grounded in your values.

At Body Liberation Collective, we honor your unique journey and provide a supportive, individualized approach to eating disorder treatment.

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, as no one person’s experience is exactly the same as another person. We use a combination of therapeutic modalities that we believe are best suited to meet your needs. This includes psychodynamic talk therapy, as well as evidenced-based behavioral interventions, including Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT-E), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT-E), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Our team also utilizes Mentalization-Based Narrative Exposure Therapy (MBNET) and NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) interventions, which are trauma-based modalities used to address early developmental ruptures and trauma that may be contributing to your current symptoms.

Eating disorders can coexist with other mental health conditions, such as Anxiety, Depression, Substance Use, OCD, Mood Disorders, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD & C-PTSD). Our experienced therapists are equipped to both assess and work with these challenges, as well and will incorporate the appropriate modalities as needed.

At Body Liberation Collective, we approach all eating disorder treatment from a
Health at Every Size and Body Trust perspective. We respect body diversity and are firmly anti-diet in all the work that we do.
